About Us

Kathy is an RN who's been working at the Burn ICU at UCI Medical Center for 3 years now. Alex had just recently graduated with his RN degree and also works at UCI Medical Center in the Surgical Step-Down Unit. Aside from fulfilling their career goals in helping others through health care, the two enjoy and share many hobbies. Among those hobbies are trying out new foods like Kogi Tacos from the taco truck, pounds of shrimp in a bag from the Boiling Crab, or even the world famous biscuits from Loveless Cafe. More active things include hiking, snowboarding, taking mid-day naps, playing tennis, traveling and experiencing new adventures, or finding reasons to play dress-up at parties.
Kathy's goals in life include learning how to swim so that she may safely partake in water sports, cook so that she may fend for herself if Alex was ever away once they're married, and being able to backpack and travel to somewhere outside of the states.
Alex's goals in life are to make Kathy happy by cooking for her (the key to her heart and belly) and cleaning the house....just kidding. His actual goals in life include (but are not limited to), having a beautiful family, getting his Bachelors in Nursing, street drifting (in Japan), fixing up an early 1970's Nissan/Datsun 240z , modifying his own Subaru Impreza WRX, and anything car-related and racing for that matter! Together, they hope to have a life filled with adventure, happiness and loving memories!

How We Met

Kathy's Version:
I would bump into Alex around the hospital, but didn't think much of him. I thought he was cute, but aside from that I didn't care to date co-workers. It was in July during the Burn Survivor Picnic that I saw him again. This time, he was in his civilian clothes serving it up with the snow cone and cotton candy machines. We made polite conversation here and there, helped with the water balloon fights and stuffed our faces (mostly mine) with snow cones and cotton candy. I had a co-worker that actually had a pair of tickets to go see the circus that same night. Although I declined on the generous gift (I don't care for the circus), she was very persuasive that I must go since some of the co-workers were going and we had VIP seating in the box.
Alex was the 5th person I asked to go! Before that, it was my mom, my little 6 year-old niece, a co-worker and even an old patient! He happened to be in the right place at the right time! He was walking towards me while picking up trash after the picnic, and I thought: "Alex must like the circus!" He had the most surprised look on his face! I proceeded to give him my number so that we could meet up and go together that night! Thinking back at the moment, I had made things so easy for him!!!

Alex's Version:
I first met Kathy when I had floated down to the Burn Unit to be a 1:1 sitter. She was the patient's nurse and I remembered her as being a really genuine and kind person. She was cute, but at the time I was dating someone, so I didn't think anymore of her.
It was not until I had volunteered the Burn Survivor Picnic that I saw her again. My only motive was helping out a friend that was in charge of the picnic, but then I saw Kathy! She looked really, REALLY cute in her normal clothes...and those legs! She looked so hot!
As I was working it at the snow cone and cotton candy machine, I tried to get the scoop about Kathy through her co-workers. Was she single? Was I in her league or her type? Should I ask her out later on tonight?
Throughout the whole picnic, I would go up and talk to Kathy....helping her out with the water balloon fight, getting her to eat cotton candy and snow cones, anything to get to know her better. I decided that I would ask her out that night! While I was picking up trash after the picnic was over, I made my way directly towards Kathy. That was when she turned towards me away from her co-workers and asked if I had any plans that night. I was taken by surprise! I responded (almost a little too enthusiastically) "no." Then the next words that came out of her mouth, was a bit confusing and surprising at the same time: "Do you want to go to the circus? You like the circus, right?" "The circus?? Tonight?? Uh, sure!!" I said, and then to top it off, she gave me her number!!! She made things so easy for me!
